The parish held all of their sacramental services in the gym and cafeteria until 1999 when the parish acquired the historic Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary and eight acres on the grounds of the former Hudson River State Hospital. The Chapel has a priceless treasure of Tiffany stained glass windows, marble altars, oak vaulting, and pews. It was built through a donation by the Edward and John Smith family of New York City in memory of their sister, Sister Mary Loretta Smith.
The acquisition of the Chapel has resurrected the parish which was at its lowest ebb in 1998. Our collections increased from $2,000 a week to $8,000 and Mass attendance increased from 800 to 1600 souls at six services every Sunday. The enrollment of the school went from 125 students in 1998 to 225 students in three years, and the parish subsidy to the school went from $300,000 a year to now no subsidy, our baptisms increased from ten a year to one hundred a year, and our weddings went from no weddings in 35 years to now more than twenty-five weddings a year.
October 14, 2014 will mark the 182nd year of our organizing as a congregation and November 26, 2017 celebrated the 177th anniversary of the dedication of the first Church of St. Peters at 95 Mill Street.
